Norman Chandler (left), publisher of the Los Angeles Times for 15 years, gives his son, Otis, 32, a hearty handshake after announcing his retirement and naming Otis his successor. The announcement came at a luncheon in the Biltmore Hotel yesterday to which Chandler had invited more than 1,000 business leaders, city officials and newspaper executives. Otis has been preparing for his job seven years - working up in each department of the Times. Photo measures 8 x 10.25inches. Photo is dated 4-12-1960.
