The full name of solid state capacitor is solid state aluminium electrolytic capacitor. The biggest difference between it and ordinary capacitors (i.e. liquid aluminium electrolytic capacitors) is the use of different dielectric materials, liquid aluminium capacitor dielectric material for the electrolyte, while the dielectric material of solid state capacitors is conductive polymer materials. ♦ Solid state electrolytic capacitors, known as solid state aluminium electrolytic capacitors, differ from ordinary capacitors in that they use a different dielectric material. The dielectric material of ordinary capacitors (i.e. liquid aluminium electrolytic capacitors) is electrolyte, while the dielectric material of solid state capacitors is conductive polymer material. This material not only has a strong conductive ability, but also has high temperature and frequency characteristics, which can reduce the equivalent series resistance (ESR) and improve the performance of the capacitor.
♦ The advantages of solid state electrolytic capacitors include high stability, long life and low ESR, which can work stably in high temperature environment, and the change of capacitance in the whole temperature range is not more than 15%, which is obviously better than liquid electrolytic capacitors. In addition, solid state electrolytic capacitors have a lifespan of more than 50 years, which is extremely reliable and will not affect stability due to evaporation or leakage of liquid electrolyte. Under high-frequency and high-power operating conditions, the extremely low ESR characteristics of solid-state electrolytic capacitors can fully absorb the high amplitude voltage generated between the power lines in the circuit, preventing interference to the system.
♦ Solid state electrolytic capacitors have a wide range of applications, mainly used in digital products such as thin DVDs, projectors, industrial computers, and more recently in computer motherboards. Due to its excellent characteristics of environmental protection, low impedance, high and low temperature stability, solid state electrolytic capacitors perform well in low-voltage and high-current applications.
Positive and negative identification method
The black/red block on the top of the capacitor is the negative terminal. There are two semicircles on the capacitor position on the PCB, and the pin corresponding to the colour-coated semicircle is the negative pole. There is also a pin length to distinguish positive and negative, long feet for positive, short feet for negative, solid state capacitors will also have two circles on the top, painted colour half-circle corresponds to the negative pin, and the position on the PCB is the same!
