Issued at the very birth of DAW Books under Donald A. Wollheim’s editorship, The Mind Behind the Eye embodies the press’s mission to champion original science fiction in mass-market form. Cover artist Josh Kirby (1928–2001) later became internationally known for Terry Pratchett’s Discworld covers.

From the estate of Jeri Kandel of Sarasota, Florida. Jeri, an aspiring Sci-Fi/Horror author, was active in the Florida West Coast Sci-Fi – Fantasy community. She served as a volunteer for DragonCon in Atlanta and other Florida West Coast and Orlando conventions, and as an active member of ASFA (Association of Science Fiction & Fantasy Artists), through which she acquired many remarkable autographs.
