Major General Philip Henry Sheridan (1831–1888) was one of the Union Army’s most aggressive and successful cavalry commanders during the American Civil War. Rising rapidly under Ulysses S. Grant, Sheridan played pivotal roles in the Shenandoah Valley Campaign and the Appomattox Campaign, helping bring the war to a close. Known for his bold tactics and relentless pursuit of Confederate forces, his leadership became legendary. After the war, he commanded the U.S. Army and was instrumental in the Indian Wars and the rebuilding of the South during Reconstruction.
