This is an 1800’s or possibly older, Conestoga wagon hammer pin and was used on a covered wagon as a handy tool
- A hammer pin was on every covered wagon of the time period
- It was used as a hitch pin, pry bar and screwdriver and with it they always had a handy tool if needed
- The hammer pin has a nice typical shape to the head
- There are some deeps pits in the iron from so many years of use or possibly it was lost on a dirt floor barn or in a field
- The handle has wear and a slight bend from the horses pulling the wagon for many years
- The hammer head shows a nice amount of wear and mushrooming from use
- The head is 4" long
- 1 1/4" thick
- The whole hammer pin is 9 1/4" long
- The handle is almost 7/8” thick at the top and has wear
