Love Live! School Idol Project is a heartwarming, music-driven anime that blends school life, friendship, and the dazzling world of idols into an inspiring coming-of-age story. Set in the quiet district of Akihabara, Tokyo, the series follows Honoka Kousaka, a cheerful and determined high school girl who learns that her beloved school, Otonokizaka High, is facing closure due to declining enrollment.

Desperate to save the school, Honoka comes up with a bold idea: start a school idol group to attract attention and boost applications. Inspired by the success of national school idol units, Honoka recruits her best friends Umi Sonoda and Kotori Minami, and together they form the foundation of the group μ’s (pronounced "Muse").

Initially facing rejection, skepticism, and logistical challenges, the trio begins performing and slowly gains traction. Along the way, they are joined by a diverse cast of students, each with unique talents and personalities: the disciplined student council president Eli Ayase, her childhood friend Nozomi Tojo, the aloof pianist Maki Nishikino, the energetic idol fanatic Hanayo Koizumi, and her best friend Rin Hoshizora, as well as the charismatic Nico Yazawa, who dreams of idol fame. Together, they form a nine-member idol unit whose goal is to compete in the national Love Live! competition—an event to crown the best school idol group in Japan.

As μ’s grows closer as a team, the members experience emotional highs and lows—balancing academics, friendships, personal insecurities, and their growing fame. Each episode showcases not only their performances but also their evolving bonds, highlighting themes of perseverance, self-expression, and the power of believing in one another.

Love Live! Superstar!! follows a fresh generation of girls at Yuigaoka Girls’ High School, a brand-new institution built at the intersection of Tokyo’s Omotesando, Harajuku, and Aoyama districts. With no traditions, no upperclassmen, and no existing club structure, the school is starting entirely from scratch mirroring the dreams and uncertainties of its students 

The story begins in 2021 with Kanon Shibuya, a first-year student whose growing voice cracks and stage fright have made her hesitant to pursue music. Alongside her classmates Keke Tang, a determined transfer from Shanghai; Chisato Arashi, who wants to prove her worth and loyalty to Kanon; Sumire Heanna, a self-conscious aspiring actress; and Ren Hazuki, the student council president carrying familial expectations they form a five-member school idol group named “Liella!”
