Kantai Collection, often abbreviated as KanColle, is a unique blend of naval warfare, slice-of-life, and fantasy anime based on the popular online browser game developed by DMM and Kadokawa. The story is set in an alternate world where humanity is under threat from mysterious, ocean-dwelling enemies known as the Abyssal Fleet. To combat this existential threat, the navy enlists the help of "Fleet Girls"—young girls who possess the spirits of historical World War II warships and are capable of battling using their ship-based equipment.

The protagonist is Fubuki, a newly assigned Destroyer-class Fleet Girl who arrives at the naval base with no combat experience but a strong determination to serve.
