A nice very clean interior armed forces heavy gauge aluminium water bottle inside of the bottle . A small section of ribbed rubber with two end holes could this  be a possible rubber mouth insert held between teeth when jumping out of a plane to save biting the tip of your tongue off when landing ?

   I have just had a e-mail  today from Variable 33 stating the canister is a  1970 French army issue canteen, and it still looks like the cup is in side  under the canvas  cover. I am not going to remove the cover to see, as i may not be able to get the cover back on as good as it looks like now.    Many thanks to VARIBLE 33 for your knowledge
