Description
70mm Frame Extension Add-on (1.47m)
Frames fit better and operate more smoothly!
Strong, clip-on extensions for increasing the width or height of 70mm window and door frames. Designed to snap securely onto Profile 22 outer frames, without the need for screw fixings. These 1.47m long PVC-u frame packer add-ons are available in a choice of thickness.
Frame extensions are used when the outer frame is smaller than the structural opening, or when extra clearance is required to accommodate interior plaster lines or external obstacles, such as fascia or external cladding. They prevent the frame being buried into the plaster, or from the deep plaster line preventing full opening of a door hinge. A thick frame packer can also be used to allow the fitting of a trickle vent at the head of a door or window, when additional ventilation is required. The frame extensions are available in four thicknesses (15mm, 20mm, 35mm, and 50mm), and can be combined with each other to provide alternative coverage. For example, clipping a 35mm and 20mm extension together will satisfy a space of 40mm.
Features & Benefits
- Increases frame size - fills gap between frame and wall
- Solves clearance issues - overcomes deep reveals
- Helps doors operate freely - positions hinges away from wall
- Simple clip-on fixing - fits easily to Profile 22 systems
- UV-stable material - resistant to warping and cracking
- Can improve ventilation - allows installation of trickle vents
- Suits 70mm frames - matches common profile depth
- Fits uneven stonework - can cut to shape as required
- Eco-friendly - recycled material and low-energy manufacture
- Manufacturer guarantee - a product you can trust
There are many situations that may require the use of an add-on to increase the width of a frame on one or more sides. Common examples include:
- Allow a frame to be used when the opening is larger than the frame itself.
- Reduce cost by allowing standard window and door sizes to be ordered, with shortfall in width or height made up with add-ons.
- Create space around the frame to clear deep plaster, render, tiles, etc, and to accommodate external obstacles.
- Provide clearance on hinge side of a door to allow full operation.
- Help line up one frame to another for a neat and consistent appearance.
- Raise the bottom of the door to improve floor level transition
Did you know? The rigid chambered profile features a male side that clips onto the female clip channel of Profile 22 outer frames, and a female side that mimics the outer frame. This allows frame extensions to lock onto each other, and create thicker add-ons when necessary.

Fitting and Usage
Fitting & Usage
The following describes typical fitting of a frame packer add-on to window and door outer frame. The instructions presume that the frame extension is being used with the Profile 22 systems. Although it is possible to screw-fix this as add-on to other 70mm profiles, you should always seek to use add-ons that are approved by the profile manufacturer.
Tools and Materials Needed
In addition to the frame and the desired frame extension add-on, the following tools and material are recommended.
- Tape measure
- Fine-tooth saw or mitre saw
- Screwdriver or drill (if screw-fix type)
- Cleaning cloth and solvent cleaner
- Silicone sealant (optional, for weather sealing)
Step-by-Step Fitting Instructions
- Prepare the Frame
- Lay the PVC-u frame flat on a clean, stable surface.
- Make sure the surface where the add-on will attach is clean, dry, and free of dust or debris.
- Wipe with PVC-u solvent cleaner to remove any grease.
- Prepare the Add-on
- Measure the length of the frame side where the add-on will go.
- Cut the add-on to match the exact length using a fine-tooth saw or mitre saw.
- If fitting on multiple sides, such as head and jambs, mitre the corners for a neat joint.
- Fitting the Add-on
- Align the add-on with the frame clip channel.
- Press firmly until it clicks securely into place.
- Tap gently with a rubber mallet if needed to ensure a tight fit.
- Ensure the add-on runs evenly and flush along the entire length.
- Some situations may benefit from screw fixings (see Supplementary Screw Fixing below).
- Finishing
- A thin bead of silicone sealant can be applied along joints for improved weatherproofing.
- Extensions can be covered with a finishing trim, such as a pencil round architrave, if you wish to match a coloured frame, or conceal the subtle joint line.
- Clean off any excess with a damp cloth.
Supplementary Screw Fixing
| Situation | Screw Requirement | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Standard clip-on side/jamb add-on | No | Clip-on is sufficient. |
| Wide add-on (25mm+) | Optional | Use screws for rigidity and to prevent potential loosening from heat or vibration. |
| Sill or threshold add-on | Yes | Supports load and prevents flex. |
