Naughty is the second solo studio album by Chaka Khan, released on March 26, 1980, by Warner Bros. Records. Produced by Arif Mardin—who had previously helmed her successful 1978 self-titled debut—this album builds on their collaborative chemistry, blending R&B, funk, and disco elements with Khan's expansive vocal range. It captures Khan in a transitional phase, post-Rufus, experimenting with more polished, club-oriented sounds while showcasing her funk roots. Though it doesn't reach the heights of her later solo hits, Naughty is often praised for its energy and near-classic status, with no weak tracks and features from rising stars like Whitney Houston and Luther Vandross on backing vocals. The album peaked at No. 6 on Billboard's Black Albums chart and No. 43 on the Pop Albums chart. It earned Khan her first American Music Award nomination for Favorite Soul/R&B Female Artist in 1981. Three singles were released: "Clouds" (a club favorite written by Ashford & Simpson), "Papillon (aka Hot Butterfly)," and "So Naughty." Fun trivia: The back cover photo features Khan's then-12-year-old daughter, Indira Khan (aka Milini), posing in a playful nod to the album's cheeky title.
