Stoker Petty Officer John Isherwood was born in Leigh, Lancashire in 1906. His father was killed in action in WW1, whilst serving with the 1st Battalion, Kings Liverpool Regiment. He was employed as a stoker in a colliery when he enlisted into the Royal Navy as a stoker on 1/9/1926.

He was granted his Long Service and Good Conduct Medal on 20/11/1941, at the time he was a Stoker Petty Officer.   

No doubt he qualified for various WW2 campaign medals.
