The initial concept for what became known as Hall’s “Great Book”, first began in 1923 when the young Los Angeles-based orator began a months-long trip around the globe. Circumnavigating by ship, Hall visited Egypt, China and India, immersing himself in the philosophical and religious history of each country. Upon his return he spent the next five years penning his massive compendium of philosophy and myth.
Nearly a century after its release, this iconic masterwork has been reproduced for the first time from the rare and extravagant original edition. This meticulously-restored version of Hall’s “Great Book” is also accompanied by an expansive companion book, featuring condensed summaries of each chapter of The Secret Teachings, alongside newly-discovered artworks, rare photography from Hall’s archives as well as essays from journalists Mitch Horowitz and Jessica Hundley.
The four special edition prints were selected from the many artworks originally created for the first edition of The Secret Teachings of All Ages.
Rarely seen and only recently discovered in the archives at the Philosophical Research Society, these works were first commissioned by Manly P. Hall and were created by his frequent artistic collaborators, J.A. Knapp and M.K. Serailian.
The Secret Teachings of all Ages is both famed in it's own Rosy Crux circles, and at the same time is so little known that there are probably thousands of books that have used it as a reference work; some may not even know that their quotes from other great references are actually taking their inspiration from Hall who dedicated a great deal of his life just to this book's completion. There are hundreds of illustrations in full color, and is one of the few books I have ever seen that truly can be called a work of art - the traditions of illuminated manuscripts and other post-Christian era occult works.

Hardcover with fold-outs in slipcase with the main book measuring roughly 19in.x 13in. and containing 356 pages. The companion book measures roughly 10:x7 1/2 in. and contains 256 pages. Both come with leatherette-bound spine and gold foil embossing. Included in every copy are 4 prints in a portfolio, each measuring 13.2 x 18.7 in.
The first 5000 of these were labelled as "Famous First Edition" and those are now completely gone, except on the second hand market. I do not have any of those left. This new Taschen BABY SUMO edition is identical, save it is now the second printing. It has a total weight of 29lb (13 kg) and comes exactly as shipped to me from Taschen.
