Vintage Chinese Red Silk Dragon Phoenix Embroidery Capri Pants & Robe Jacket

This vintage Chinese red silk dragon phoenix embroidery capri pants and robe jacket set dates from the 1940s. It is made of a bright red silk fabric with multicolor raised padded satin stitch hand embroidery work of flowers and dragon phoenix roundels medallions. The Chinese consider the dragon and phoenix symbolic of blissful relations between husband and wife, a common yin and yang metaphor. There is white silk multicolor floral embroidered trim and pastel mint green silk trim edging. This lucky red color Chinese pajama ensemble has a short surcoat style robe jacket, with 3/4 length full sleeves, a mandarin collar, side slit vents, mint green silk pankou knotted toggle trim closures down the front and is fully lined in a red silk fabric. The robe measures 21 inches long, with a 34 inch chest, 12 inch long sleeve and 12 inch neck. There are matching embroidered dragon phoenix roundels short capri pants, missing the adjustable drawstring waistband and are unlined. The pants measure 30 inches long, with a 18 inch inseam, a 36 inch waist and 40 inch hips. It is in good condition, with two tiny pin holes on the back pants waist and some slight fraying on the mint green silk trim on the front top robe (see close-up). This is truly a wonderful piece of Chinese embroidery wearable art!
