This speaker was purchased from a friend and he had removed it from his bass speaker cabinet. When he stored it in a box, he laid it down on newspaper which stuck to the speaker surround. We removed as much as we could and didn’t result in any damage to the cone. This speaker has been used. There is no coil rub or rips in the cone.
This speaker is designed to handle high power amplifiers and produce clean sound without breaking up or producing distortion which makes it excellent for bass or vocal reproduction, much less clear and clean sound for guitar and keyboards. This speaker is also extremely efficient and requires very little power to operate. The SPL (Sound Pressure Level) is much greater than conventional speakers due to it's very high power magnet structure and heat resistant edge-wound voice coil.
We use a Klein multimeter to show conductance on the voice coil integrity.

All JBL speakers use a large voice coil of edge-wound aluminum ribbon attached directly to the center-
dome. By using ribbon rather than conventional round wire, efficiency is raised, range is greatly increased, and the speaker is able to handle tremendous momentary overloads without damage. The coil vibrates in a carefully crafted magnetic structure... a massive assembly cast from a special high magnetic con-ductance alloy. All of the energy supplied by the heavy magnet is directed to the one place where it counts: the voice coil gap. Wasteful stray fields are non-existent.
These are reasons why JBL speakers are so efficient, why they perform better with less electrical power. And because of the precise tolerance between the coil and the magnetic pole pieces, JBL loudspeakers have much higher flux density than do ordinary speakers. This means tight magnetic control over the moving cone, which allows the speaker to follow the most complicated musical runs and rhythms without ring, muffle, break-up, or distortion of any kind.
