I bought this thinking I would need it and I didn't need it after all, and I can't return it. It's still in the bubble wrap (sealed/never opened from when it was shipped to and picked up from Lowe's. The pictures in the bubble wrap are of the actual coupler that you will receive.

The ideal distance for a ceiling fan is 7 to 9 feet from the ceiling fan blades to the floor. When building your downrod, ensure your ceiling fan is positioned at the optimal height for air circulation.
