Brand History:

Franciscan was originally founded in 1934 as part of Gladding, McBean & Co., a California-based ceramics company established in 1875. The Franciscan name was adopted for its line of dinnerware, inspired by the rich Spanish heritage of Southern California. Among its most iconic patterns are Apple and Desert Rose, both introduced in the 1940s and celebrated for their handpainted charm and vibrant colors. In 1962, Franciscan became part of Interpace, and later in 1979, production moved to England after the brand was acquired by Wedgwood. The Apple pattern continued to be produced under the Wedgwood Group with the same attention to handpainted detail. Today, vintage Franciscan dinnerware is highly collectible for its quality craftsmanship and timeless appeal. The Apple pattern remains a beloved classic among collectors, embodying a homey, orchard-inspired aesthetic that has endured across generations.
