Incredible French portrait cabinet plate by Sèvres for Château de Saint-Cloud circa 19th century. Features a central portrait of Madame de Montespan with a lovely magenta hue border with heavy gilt detailing of roses and scrolls. Artist signed, DeBrie.

Madame de Montespan (1640-1707) born Françoise-Athénaïs de Rochechouart de Mortemart, was a French noblewoman and the most celebrated royal mistress of King Louis XIV. During their romantic relationship, which lasted from the late 1660s to the late 1670s, she was sometimes referred to by contemporaries as the “true Queen of France” due to the pervasiveness of her influence at court. She was known to be very beautiful and highly intelligent and witty. Madame de Montespan had 7 children by King Louis XIV during the years they were together.

This cabinet plate is in overall great condition but it does have some minimal wear to the border. Please see all photos.
