Description

LARGE  (21 x 22) Scrapbook that formally belonged to the wife of a Salvation Army General from the turn of the 20th century ( 1900-1912). In many ways the scrapbook is an Art Nouvea masterpiece that exhibits a very feminine, natural, floral, beauty inspired art aesthetic through each page. The theme of the scrapbook is patriotic and religious, with multiple insertions proclaiming the gospel and the leaders of the Salvation Army. There are a good number of beautiful chromolithography prints that by all accounts, are likely rare? Several other insertions warn the evils of strong drink and saloon's reflecting the nation's move towards prohibition. One of the most intriquing insertions shows Dr. Talmage's trip to Russia meeting up with the Czar Nicholas II and his family.
From the logo on the cover, the scrapbook itself appears to have been a textile sample book from the old Jacksonville,Florida department Furchgott's.

In regard to condition the spine is "loosely secured" at best from clear tape with expected foxing, tears, stains and paper edge loss. All being said, for a scrapbook that is roughly 125 years old and counting... it has held up fairly well"
