Offered is a rare 1827 Pattern Naval Officers Sword with Scabbard, by Friedberg & Co. Naval Outfitters, Portsmouth.

Features an ornate gilded brass guard, with King's crown & central fouled anchor. Lions head pommel & etched lions mane back strap is superb with detailed locking langet, very good gilt finish to both inside and outside of the guard. The brass wire bound, toned white shark skin grip is in very fine condition.

80cm long, slightly curved blade shows some lower blade age spots from handling but is in very good unsharpened condition. Hand etchings to the brass proof plugged blade are very clear and fine, being both floral and martial in nature. The black lacquered leather scabbard has both brass lockets, with suspension rings and lower brass drag. Overall, a beautifully crafted, very good condition display sword, measuring 95cm, a piece which could still be used for a current or former serving officer for ceremonial use.
