Reveal Captain McVay dropped in rank - Washington, D.C. - The navy closed its inquiry today into the sinking of the Cruiser Indianapolis by remitting the court martial sentence of Captain Charles B. McVay, III and reprimanding four officers for delay in rescue operations. Fleet Admiral Chester W. Nimitz, at a special news conference made the action public. McVay, captain of the cruiser, was found guilty of negligence by a court martial last December.
