If the item is listed as NEW or NWT, we will store those separately and were more than likely bought new We DO have any pets, but our items are housed in an area that pets don't enter. Not every item comes from a smoking home, but  items are  stored together and can have a trace of smoke. If there is any chance traces of smoke would bother you, then you might want to consider that when making a purchase, unless it's a new item. We use Dryel to clean and we do wash, but if you are sensitive there may be smoke, please use your discretion.
