Jens Quistgaard for Dansk mid-century modern matte finish chocolate brown Flamestone ceramic serving pitcher with lid, spout and handle.
Circa late 1950s.
Made in Denmark.
64 ounce capacity.
It is a very early product from the design company with the original “Four Ducks” logo used between 1959-1965 and captures the balance between the ‘modern’ and the traditional. The initials “IHQ” are Jens Quistgaard’s mark.
Exterior is a rich deep brown.
Interior is a cream color with a gloss enamel finish.
The ribbed design is iconic and gives the piece it's unique, standout look.
Can go very modern and elegant OR very retro and mid century modern in look, depending on your decor. A charming serving piece in good vintage condition. A small chip on the inside of the pour spout that is barely detectable. Some faint chalky white scuff lines from age. One small vertical 1.5" hairline crack line on the rim and a some wear and chipping on the bottom rim. It is sound, sits level and has many years of life left in it!
Measures about 13.5" tall.
Base diameter is 5" across.
Measures 3 5/8" diameter across top opening.
Widest point from spout to handle is 7.5" across.
Quistgaard was born in 1919 in Copenhagen, son of sculptor Harald Quistgaard. He was trained as a sculpture and used his mastery of form to turn functional items into "voorwerpen van kunst" (objects of art). Quistgaard's designs for Dansk helped to bring sophisticated European design into the average home.
