DESCRIPTION:

Second issue from the series: “Nautical Ounce”

The second release in the Nautical Ounce series, the HMS Endeavour Silver Coin, honors a legendary exploration vessel. This one-ounce .999 fine silver coin, struck by the Bavarian State Mint, is available in proof and antique finishes. The coin measures 40mm in diameter and approximately 4mm thick. The obverse features the Rwandan coat of arms and a 50 Francs face value. A stylized compass and the HMS Endeavour in full sail grace the reverse. The proof version, enhanced by the antique finish, showcases the ship's historical significance and nautical beauty. Its limited mintage ensures its desirability among collectors and history enthusiasts.

The HMS Endeavour, originally the Earl of Pembroke, charted a course through history under Lieutenant James Cook's command, contributing significantly to Pacific exploration and the mapping of Australia's east coast. This 1768 scientific expedition led to the charting of New Zealand's coast and extensive mapping of eastern Australia. The Endeavour's voyages also yielded valuable advancements in astronomy, botany, and cartography. After its exploration service, the ship transitioned to transport duties and was ultimately destroyed by American forces in 1778 during the American Revolutionary War.
