For offer is an exceptional very early Doulton Lambeth jug by arguably their most famous artist, George Tinworth.
George Tinworth studied at the Lambeth School of Art under John Sparkes and at the Royal Academy. In 1866, he was among the first students employed by Henry Doulton to work for Doulton's Lambeth factory.
The jug is dated 1874
The background of the jug is brown and it is delightfully decorated with blue florets within diamond shapes and enhanced by decorative pinacles.
The jug is in excellent original condition other than a very minor, invisible repair to the top rim.
Height : 23 cm
Width : 11 cm
The jug is stamped on the base with the early Doulton Lambeth mark and dated 1874 together with the George Tinworth mark clearly engraved together with that of an assistant .
This is a top quality and delightful example from one of Doulton Lambeth's prime artists.
