Carbon brushes are of the most frequently replaced power tool parts. This is because carbon brushes are consumable parts that gradually wear out through friction and use until they need to be replaced. Worn brushes are a common cause of intermittent motor function, weakened electric braking, and reduced motor power. Worn brushes usually wear close to the wires and may crack, dent, or burn. When replacing carbon brushes, be sure to inspect your for burns, cracks, or other damage that could indicate a larger motor problem.
