Jenny Marie Adèle

On October 1, 1889, she opened an art class in Arras for ladies and young women, teaching drawing and painting.

As a portraitist, she moved to the capital in 1890, the same year she painted Woman with a Pipe, a piece commissioned by the Society of Friends of the Arts of Pau as part of an anti-smoking campaign.

Fontaine, known as Jenny Maria, was the daughter of Cyprien Jean Michel Fontaine, a traveling salesman, and Adèle Clara Matifas.

A student of Gustave Boulanger, Jules Lefebvre, Benjamin-Constant, and Jean-Paul Laurens, she began exhibiting at the Salon in 1888.
