Presenting an antique 1850s Berlin needlepoint tapestry panel depicting a nativity biblical scene, possibly Mary and Joseph and baby Jesus. The needlework is done with in wool thread in a lovely pictorial scene in various shades of browns, blues, yellows, greens and reds, circa 1850's, worked into a hand done natural dyed wool thread needlepoint ground. The edge is adorned with fruit and floral border on 3 sides. Needlepoint are all worked in at 11 stitches per inch.
APPROXIMATE MEASUREMENT
This needlepoint measures 26-1/2″ × 28" including its perimeter.
CONDITION
It appears to have been previously framed with traces of nail holes at edges in canvas. Embroidery is complete. Overall in very good antique condition some age discoloration on canvas edge perimeter and elsewhere, bleeding, and some fading, no stitch loss and with wear normal for its age. I large rip in edge perimeter. Still quite vibrant in color. Still this needlework art panel is very stable as it is for its age of 165+ years.
