This is an original 1920 advertising blotter from C. E. Cook, a Kansas City, Missouri butcher offering home-made lard, mince meat, pork sausage, and other goods for home delivery. Measuring approximately 5.5" x 3.25", the blotter features charming full-color artwork by noted American illustrator Clara Miller Burd, whose signature appears at lower left.
The scene shows a boy standing beside a green wooden cart pulled by two dogs, with a baby seated inside alongside jars of preserves. The caption reads “Belgium – The Fair and Brave,” part of a known patriotic-themed art series. The reverse shows ink staining from historical use as a functional blotter.
This piece combines early 20th-century advertising with collectible illustration art and regional Missouri history. A fine example of illustrated ephemera tied to both commercial and cultural Americana.
Shows use that you can see in the images.
