Photo of assault troops during a training for the spring offensive (taken in January or February 1918) on the assault troops training ground around Sedan. It was most likely under supervision of the Sturmbataillon 5 Rohr.
The soldiers are equipped with steel helmets, watercans, rifles, grenade bags, shovels and wire cuters. Regarding the equipment they are pioneers. Also they are testing the exprimental M18 steel helmet with the cut out ears (2 of them). They also used smoke grenades to advance. The photo is simply epic.
