The Toyota Altezza is a rear-wheel-drive sports sedan that was marketed in Japan as a revival of the classic AE86 Levin/Trueno, while also competing with European D-segment sedans that sped down the Autobahn. Sold domestically as the first new model in the new "Netz" sales channel, and overseas as the first-generation Lexus IS, it used different engines depending on the market: a 4-cylinder engine for the domestic market and a 6-cylinder engine mainly for overseas markets. Produced from 1998 to 2005, the Altezza has recently been gaining renewed attention as a compact rear-wheel-drive sedan.
