Rare PRO-CONFEDERATE Abraham Lincoln Proclamation 1861 Ohio Civil War Newspaper  
 
Offered is an original, collectible newspaper (NOT a copy/reproduction): THE CRISIS, Columbus, Ohio, May 9, 1861

This was an anti-war newspaper that insisted slavery should not be abolished, so consequently much content has an anti-North bias.

The top of page 5 has: "A Proclamation by the President of the United States". In this Proclamation Lincoln a further call for United States Volunteers to serve three years with regiments being organized by state governments. He increased the regular U.S. Army by 22,714 men and called for 42,034 more volunteers to enlist for three years. It is signed at its conclusion: Abraham Lincoln.

Among the articles within are: "Treason In New Orleans" "The Plot to Dissolve the Union Avowed Seven Years Ago" "Aid & Comfort to the Enemy" "The War Movement" & much more.

There are also reports on the events in Congress from June 8 thru July 4 on the creation of the Declaration of Independence including a printing of it.

Eight pages, never bound nor trimmed so it folds out to one large sheet, scattered foxing, nice condition.

Described as "The Hottest Rebel Sheet to be found in the North or the South", this newspaper opposed the war and attracted the hatred of the Republicans and the Lincoln administration. It was denied circulation in some cities. In 1863 the press was raided by a hateful mob.
