I am way out of my knowledge base with this small portrait, so I am making some guesses!! Based upon the style, I believe it is Dutch and may date anywhere from the 1600's to 1700's!! It is painted on wood board and there is a faint sketch in pencil of a woman on the back with a kitten!! The details are hard to see but her manner of dress suggests someone of some wealth and the costume would be from the time frame I am guessing!! This portrait may well be the woman's son as a family would hire an artist to do portraits!! Based upon the size I am guessing this was not someone of vast wealth but certainly prosperous for the times!! I have learned some cleaning techniques over my years of collecting art and I believe at some point this painting was cleaned as there is very little grime accumulation on the surface!! Also use the zoom feature and the crazing in the paint is visible as well!! I do not know if the frame is original to the piece, but it is definitely very old and has been painted gold, perhaps several times!! It is solid enough though to warrant a restoration if desired!! The portrait is approx. 4 3/8" X 5.25" in size and the frame is 6.5" X 7.5" in size!! It will be shipped fully insured!!
