In 1865, the British Museum received the Christy collection composed of archaeological objects and works. In 1872, William Axon Mansell published photographs by Stephen Thompson and Roger Fenton representing these works. This is the case of a portfolio entitled "Mansell & Co's British Museum Photographs Antiquities of Britain and Foreign Medieval Art". These photographs feature Greek, Roman and Etruscan Statues and Vases, including 24 of the Parthenon Frieze. Other photographs featuring works from the museum will also be published by him. These images are accompanied by tapuscript captions on verso.
