Haganai: I Don't Have Many Friends (Boku wa Tomodachi ga Sukunai) is a romantic comedy anime and light novel series about friendship, social awkwardness, and personal growth, written by Yomi Hirasaka with illustrations by Buriki.

The story follows Kodaka Hasegawa, a high school student with a bad reputation due to his naturally blond hair and intimidating appearance. Despite being a kind person, his delinquent-like image makes it hard for him to make friends. One day, he encounters Yozora Mikazuki, a sharp-tongued and anti-social girl who is seen talking to her imaginary friend. Realizing that neither of them has any real friends, Yozora creates the Neighbor’s Club, a group for lonely students to practice socializing and make friends.

The club quickly gains eccentric members, including Sena Kashiwazaki, a beautiful and wealthy girl adored by boys but isolated from girls due to jealousy; Rika Shiguma, a genius scientist with a perverted mind; Yukimura Kusunoki, a girl who dresses as a maid to become more “manly”; Maria Takayama, a ten-year-old nun acting as the club’s advisor; and Kobato Hasegawa, Kodaka’s chuunibyou (delusional) little sister.

Despite their goal of learning how to make friends, the club members spend most of their time playing video games, watching movies, and engaging in hilarious, chaotic antics. However, as the series progresses, deeper personal struggles and romantic feelings begin to emerge, especially between Kodaka, Yozora, and Sena.

Haganai blends comedy, romance, and light drama, offering relatable themes about loneliness and self-acceptance while delivering plenty of humor and awkward social interactions. With its quirky cast and unpredictable moments, the series is a fun yet heartfelt exploration of what it truly means to have friends.
