Wooden hand-made icon. Our Lady of Vladimir. 

The icon base is a wooden board and linen canvas. We apply gesso to the canvas in several layers with intermediate sanding of each layer.

The image of the icon is applied to the gesso and polished with a wax composition.

The size of the icon of Our Lady of Vladimir is 10 * 7 cm. 

About the icon; 

Our Lady of Vladimir is one of the most important and most recognizable icons in the Russian Orthodox tradition. It is considered miraculous and is associated with many historical and religious events.

According to legend, the icon was painted by the Apostle Luke on a board from the table at which Jesus Christ and the Virgin Mary dined. The icon came to Russia from Byzantium at the beginning of the 12th century and became one of the main shrines of the Vladimir-Suzdal land. In 1395, by order of Grand Duke Vasily Dmitrievich, the icon was moved to Moscow and became the main icon of the Assumption Cathedral of the Moscow Kremlin.

Many historical events are associated with the Vladimir Icon of the Mother of God, such as the deliverance of Moscow from the invasion of Tamerlane in 1395 and the expulsion of the Polish-Lithuanian invaders in 1612.

In the 20th century, the icon was moved from the Assumption Cathedral to the Tretyakov Gallery, where it remains to this day. Currently, the icon is one of the symbols of Russia and the Orthodox faith, as well as an object of worship and prayers for believers.
