DESCRIPTION

The very scarce first edition of this work.

With the rear wrap, the front flyleaf, and a portion of the back strip and the front wrap of the original dust wrapper.

Illustrated with sixteen colour plates, and four plates of maps. Collated, complete.

With passages dedicated to early explorers of the region, the far north and far west of the country, and 'the great fight for Canada'.

With a former owner's inscription, dated 1912, to the half title.

CONDITION

In the publisher's original pictorial cloth binding, with portions of the original dust wrapper. Minor closed tear each to the back strip head and tail, with a touch of fraying to head of front joint. Front hinge strained, but firmly held. Inscription to half title. Retaining the front and rear wrap, front flyleaf, and a portion of the back strip of the original dust wrapper. Significant closed tears and losses to the perimeters of the front wrap, with losses to the perimeters of the rear wrap. Back strip age toned, with major losses to head, tail and perimeters. Marks to pictorial portion of front wrap. Internally, firmly bound. Pages generally bright, with instances of light handling marks throughout.
