1960 Press Photo Nine-Year-Old Ned Moran Riding in Locomotive, Virginia
Charlottesville, Virginia: The envy of any kid anywhere, nine-year-old Ned Moran peers ahead from the cab of a giant diesel locomotive that took him on a 175-mile trip from his home in Charlottesville, Va. Ned's father wrote the Chesapeake & Ohio Railroad requesting a ride in the cab for the boy, whose great-great-grandfather was president of the road that is now the C&O. Ned helped out the regular train crew of the crack streamliner "George Washington" as it sped to Newport News, Virginia. A fourth-grade pupil, Ned is studying railroading with his class. Photo measures 7 x 9 inches. Photo Is dated 1960.
