- MFG Date: *DEC-2008*. This was definitively the end of Floppy Drive era, of any size and capacity, because in 2008, they were already replaced by USB thumb drives for virtually any data to be shared with other people or computers. Even the DVDs were phasing out as well. I remember that era, being in Computer Science for over 40 years... This exact drive was pulled from a HP Z-Server, possibly the most recent one I have ever seen equipped with a floppy drive. This drive had very little use, if any, for that rare emergency boot to get in real DOS, or gain access or repair a corrupted OS installation. Shortly after that, even this task could be done with a USB key or hard drive, and I remember emergency boots were done that way in the later years of this particular HP server...

CONDITION: Floppy drive is in *perfect* working condition, and in pristine "Like New" physical condition. Extremely low usage, if any, and it has been in "storage" inside that Z-Server during its active life, and then in the warehouse for quite a few years now. I pulled it out just last week...
Floppy drives are the perfect tool for legacy DOS or CP/M applications that used to be on 5.25" or even 8"disks. With software like FDFORMAT, you can format a 3.5" as if it would be a 5.25" or even 8", and use the same programs.
FDFORMAT allows to format 40 tracks instead of 80, and
8, 9, or 15 sectors per track instead of 18.
Once this is done to the right format, then dump your
5.25" disk image onto the floppy in a sector-by-sector
fashion.
