ANTIQUE HAND EMBROIDERED FLORAL QUILT, 1880s

An antique embroidered floral quilt dating from 1880s or earlier and skillfully all hand stitched embroidery and heavily quilting.  A wonderful example of Americana folk art with 25 different flowers.

This quilt is reminiscent of a very grand and regal period when quilters had time to skillfully finish a quilt.

CONDITION

In good  condition for its age, with tiny clusters of spots scattered about. No repairs, some age splitting and popping of white fabric all on top edge, some water stains, and a 2 flowers have fading to the red thread stitches. There are hand done stitching, throughout at 8 stitches to the inch. Backing material is a plain white cotton and with thin batting fillers. Binding is rolled from the back to the front and hand stitched. This is a 1880's quilt and cotton at that time was picked by slaves. You also could say that this cotton is organic, pre chemical days.
