Unlike too-many similar units on eBay this unit was not stolen. 

If a victim reports their unit to FLIR as stolen, then FLIR will confiscate stolen units when the thief sends it in for repairs, upgrades, (forgotten) password reset, or recalibration.

The best part?  If a thief asks FLIR if a serial number has been reported stolen, they'll say "no" even if it has. That's how they lure thieves into sending in stolen units.
