Q & A

What is OCuLink?

A: The OCuLink interface is a PCI Express small connector standard developed by the PCI-SIG organization. Its full name is Optical Copper Link, which means optoelectronic composite connector. It was first proposed in 2013 with the aim of providing a more compact, flexible, and efficient PCIe expansion solution.

OCuLink can support different protocols such as PCIe 3.0 and PCIe 4.0, as well as storage protocols such as SATA and SAS. At present, the common OCuLink interface on the market uses two different connectors, SFF-8611 and SFF-8612, which are respectively used for the host side and device side. It can provide 4 PCIe channels, with a total bandwidth of up to 64Gbps.

The main application scenario of OCuLink interface is to provide high-speed PCIe expansion capability between mobile devices and external devices, such as external graphics cards, storage devices, network devices, etc. It can provide mobile devices with more powerful performance and functionality when needed, without the need to change their internal structure and size. It can also make external devices more easily compatible and connected to different host devices without the need for additional converters or adapters.

The Minisforum DEG1 graphics card docking station has a minimalist design, with the entire body made of metal material; Due to its open design, it claims to have no limit on graphics card length and supports up to Nvidia Geforce RTX 4090 and AMD Radeon RX 7900 XTX graphics cards.
Mnisforum DEG1 graphics card docking station provides PCIe 4.0x4 expansion interface, which can provide up to 64Gbps data transmission bandwidth.

What's “Barebone”?
Barebone refers to a computer without RAM and solid-state drive. To assemble a computer, RAM and solid-state drives need to be purchased and assembled separately by the user.

What's the Brand of SSD and RAM?
We purchase essential hardware from different brands based on the same technical specifications, including SSDs, Wi-Fi cards, RAM, HDDs, power supplies, etc. Due to the limited resources and brands of RAM and SSD, we choose Samsung, Kingston, Crucial, Adata, Phison, teamgroup etc. as our RAM and SSD suppliers. Each piece of hardware has passed a strict quality inspection and met the factory's standards before it is delivered to Minisforum. In addition, there is no difference in the warranty policies of these hardware suppliers. The hardware brands may vary from batch to batch. Please rest assured that they all meet Minisforum's standards and are all covered by the warranty.

Does it comes with an operating system?
Barebone Comes with no RAM and no SSD, no operating system. Windows 11 operating system will be pre installed, need other OS, you leave us a note or can contact us before it's shipped.
