Is this real? Can I really just zip in the new window?

Yes, this is real :) BMW used a zipper system to install the rear window in your Z3, making any future replacement of the rear window an easy do it yourself job. The old window is simply unzipped and removed and then the replacement window is zipped in. The entire installation is done without removing or replacing the top itself!

Will this fit my Z3?

YES! This window fits ALL makes and models of the BMW Z3 1996-2002 including the M trim!

Note:

While this is a Do It Yourself task and is rather simple, the level of difficulty will vary from person to person and how "handy" they are. You should have one other person helping you with the installation – one person works from inside the car while the other person keeps the window in place and lined up as you zipper it in. Expect the installation to take 1 to 2 hours at the most. A professional at a shop would typically get this one in 20 - 30 minutes tops.  
 
Instructions for Rear Window Replacement：
Step 1：Remove the Old Rear Window:
  • Carefully detach the old rear window.
  • Thoroughly clean the installation area, removing any frayed threads, burrs, debris, or adhesive residue that could affect the new installation.
Step 2: Install the New Plastic Window:
  • Orient the new plastic window correctly, ensuring the proper side is facing outwards.
  • Align it precisely with the original window frame on the vehicle.
  • Locate the starting point of the zipper. Engage the zipper pull with the vehicle's zipper track.
  • Zip the new window closed along the entire track until you reach the end point.
  • Tip: If the zipper becomes difficult to move, apply a small amount of soap (e.g., hand soap or bar soap) to the zipper teeth to lubricate them.
Step 3：Secure the Zipper:
  • Once the zipper is fully closed, ensure both ends are properly seated.
  • For added durability and security, hand-stitch several reinforcing stitches through the zipper fabric at both the beginning and end of the zipper track.
