Antique Victorian Mourning Brooch - A memento Mori
This is Whitby Jet with tiny real seed pearls set in what I think is rose gold
( Pearls symbolise tears in Victorian jewellery )
The brooch is cracked as you can see from the pictures its not a loose crack but I have to point it out
the brooch is perfectly wearable as it is
Box not included sorry Wearing mourning jewellery displayed the strong connection between a beloved and the deceased person. For this reason, the Victorian mourning period saw the development of personalised jewellery that were used as mementos.
This brooch has a secure C clasp and measures 42mm by 11mm approx
