New-generation Digital Microscope mode for close observation of the microscopic world
The Optio WG-1/WG-1 GPS feature a new-generation, performance-enhanced Digital Microscope mode, which lets you observe and capture a magnified image of a microscopic subject often unnoticeable with the naked eye.* By positioning five LED lights around the circumference of the lens barrel, PENTAX has improved the cameras’ light distribution performance in close-range shooting, to assure brighter, more uniform lighting on the subject. These cameras also feature a new “Instant Illumination Enhancement” function, which automatically raises the illumination level of each LED light at the moment of shutter release, so that a faster shutter speed can be used to minimize camera shake and subject shake. Included as a standard accessory, a macro stand allows you to comfortably observe the subject at a minimum focusing distance of one centimeter over extended hours. With the Optio WG-1/WG-1 GPS, you can explore the microscopic world and discover its charms and wonders more easily and freely than before.

Heavy-duty construction for underwater shooting to 10 meters deep and for up to two continuous hours
By further enhancing the water-tightness of the camera body, PENTAX has upgraded the Optio WG-1/WG-1 GPS’s underwater shooting performance to 10 meters and for up to two hours of continuous operation (equivalent to IPX 8 or JIS Class 8 waterproof standards). The cameras also feature a shock-proof body design and redesigned internal mechanisms for exceptional shock-resistant capacity,** withstanding a fall from a height of 1.5 meters without damage. They even offer remarkable dust-proof performance (equivalent to IPX 6 or JIS Class 6) and remarkable cold-resistant performance for reliable operation at temperatures as low as -10°C. In addition, they boast a newly added load-resistant construction to withstand weights up to 100kgf (kilogram-force).*** All these features make the Optio WG-1/WG-1 GPS truly heavy-duty field cameras fully equipped for shooting in harsh, demanding outdoor conditions.

Advanced GPS function to add a new dimension in digital photography (available with the Optio WG-1 GPS only)
The Optio WG-1 GPS comes equipped with a new, sophisticated GPS function, which allows you to record position data at the start of every still-image or movie-clip shooting, then take advantage of GPS-compatible services provided by the included software**** and various Web sites. It also corrects the built-in clock automatically. What’s more, it offers a logging function to store position log data as a KML-format file onto a memory card, simply by carrying the camera with you. You can even keep accurate track of the movement during your outdoor excursions, and display it later on the computer, using such online services as Google EarthTM.

High-quality images delivered by super-resolution technology
In addition to approximately 14.0 effective megapixels and a state-of-the-art imaging engine, the Optio WG-1/WG-1 GPS incorporate a new, sophisticated imaging process made possible by the latest “super-resolution” technology. This technology is designed to optimize the resolution of a recorded image section by section to produce an extra-high-resolution image that is sharper, livelier and more true-to-life than ever before. New-generation face recognition function featuring Self-Portrait Assist mode
The Optio WG-1/WG-1 GPS instantly and accurately detects up to 32 faces in the image field, then catches them in sharp focus and optimum exposure in a mere 0.03 seconds, even when the faces are tilted. The cameras also offer a variety of user-friendly features to simplify the process of portrait and snapshot photography, including: Small Face filter that makes the subject’s face appear slightly smaller in a captured image than in reality; Smile Capture mode that automatically releases the shutter the instant the subject’s smile is detected; and Blink Detection function that warns you when the subject’s eyes close at the moment of shutter release. They also feature a new Self-Portrait Assist mode. When you point the camera at yourself, this convenient feature informs you whether your face is captured safely within the picture frame using the blink of the close-distance warning LED lamp on the front panel.
Optical 5X zoom lens with 28mm wide-angle coverage
Despite their compact dimensions, the Optio WG-1/WG-1 GPS come equipped with a high-performance optical 5X zoom lens covering focal lengths from 5mm to 25mm (equivalent in the 35mm format to 28mm wide angle to 140mm telephoto).
