Love Live! Sunshine!! is the second instalment in the Love Live! franchise, focusing on a new group of aspiring school idols called Aqours (pronounced "Aqua"). Set in the seaside town of Uchiura, Japan, the story follows Chika Takami, an energetic and determined high school girl who becomes inspired by the legendary idol group ?'s (from the original Love Live! series). After watching their performances, Chika dreams of forming her own idol group to bring attention and fame to her school, Uranohoshi Girls' High School, which is at risk of closing due to low enrolment.

Chika begins recruiting other students to join her idol group, eventually forming Aqours with eight other girls: Riko Sakurauchi, a talented pianist; You Watanabe, Chika?s energetic best friend; Dia Kurosawa, a traditional and disciplined student council president; and her younger sister Ruby, who is shy but passionate about idols. Joining them are Kanan Matsuura, a diver with a strong sense of responsibility; Hanamaru Kunikida, a book-loving girl from a temple family; Yoshiko Tsushima, who insists on calling herself "Yohane" and has a flair for theatrics; and Mari Ohara, the eccentric and wealthy chairman of the school.

As Aqours, the girls aim to participate in the Love Live! competition, the prestigious national contest for school idol groups, and win to save their beloved school. Along the way, they face numerous challenges, from self-doubt and personal fears to rival idol groups, but through teamwork and determination, they begin to make a name for themselves.

Love Live! Sunshine!! explores themes of friendship, dreams, and self-discovery. It?s a story about overcoming obstacles and working together toward a shared goal.
