  • Measure light: worms are light-sensitive and will bury themselves in the bedding to avoid light; light can be used strategically to prevent worms from wandering (especially in a new environment)
  • Measure pH: the pH level should be slightly acidic and maintained between 6.0 - 7.0; too much acidity can cause sour odors and lead to protein poisoning in composting worms
