Description

The Long Island Railroad (LIRR)is a commuter railroad providing passenger service the length of Long Island into New York City. Publically owned by the Metropolitan Transit Authority, it handles more passengers than any other commuter rail system in the US. It was a profitable company from its founding in 1834 until after World War II, but financial difficulties resulted in, first the State of New York subsidizing the operation and then purchasing it from the Penn Central, which owned the company.
For sale is a commuter timetable, dated September 29, 1969, for LIRR services between New York, Brooklyn, Jamaica, New Hyde Park, and Merillon Avenue. Trains are listed by departure times, and separate schedules are provided for both inbound and outbound trains. There were some 25 daily runs, in each direction. Separate listings are provided for weekdays, and for Saturday-Sunday-holidays.
There are ads for Broadway plays "Hello Dolly" and "Mame", as well as for local firms Auslander Volkswagon, Jesse Halpern Skate & Tennis Shop, Lewis Oil Company, and the Steer Palace restaurant.
The timetable measures appx 5 1/2 x 3 inches unopened and appx 9x7 inches opened; it si printed on medium-weight paper stock. Best yet, it is unused and in excellent condition, with no writing or markings, no rips or tears, no spills or smears.
A nice collectible for any LIRR railfan.
