Antique Lace Bridal Cap with Lace Trim from Veil,
cap has a 19 ½ inch circumference, lace trim is 3 ¾ inches wide and a little
over 28 feet long, probably 1920’s-30’s, American bride but possibly imported
lace, original netting from veil has been removed, netting inside lace cap has
tears, pleated netting on front of cap is deteriorating, wax flower decorations
have minor creases to paper leaves and minor damages to wax petals from heat,
as found in an estate, the lace is in presentable condition with no perceptible
damages, you can see places where the lace was sewn to the netting which did
not age as well, the lace trim has shirred turns in 4 places, one of those
turns is where the 2 ends were stitched together making it a continuous piece,
each long side is 9 feet and 4 inches long, each short side is 5 feet long, the
short sides were probably meant to become the border of the train and for the
face covering before the ceremony, the veil was probably attached to the inside
of the cap, the cap just rests upon the top of the head, the wax orange blossoms
are a lovely detail, a nice vintage bridal accessory that would be useful as a
study piece, especially as to the formation of the lace over the tiny wire
frame, the lace trim could be repurposed as there is a good length of it.
