"FED-2", 1955-1970
In 1955, serial production of the "FED-2" model began, representing an improved version of the "FED". The main difference between the "FED-2" and the "FED" is the removable back wall and the combination of the rangefinder and viewfinder. The viewfinder is combined in one field of view with the rangefinder with a base of 67 mm. and a magnification of 0.75x. A diopter correction was added to the viewfinder, and the rangefinder base was increased (along with an increase in the dimensions of the camera). The back wall was opened to load the camera. Both standard single-cylinder cassettes and double-cylinder ones were used, which, when the lock of the back cover of the case was closed, opened and formed a wide gap, which significantly reduced the possibility of damaging the surface of the film as it advanced. The shutter mechanism switch is made in the form of a ring clutch around the release button. However, in the first devices (1955 and early 1956 - about 12,000 pieces) this switch was a lever. In addition, the earliest releases of such devices were distinguished by a different rangefinder design (external feature - a rectangular rangefinder window).
In the development of the "FED-2" 4 releases are clearly traced:
Release "2" (1956) - a sync contact was added.
Release "3" (1958) - an automatic timer with an operating time of 9-15 sec. was added.
Release "4" (1969) - a lever cocking was introduced.
In addition, the following changes are quite noticeable: the sync contact was first placed on the body, and then on the upper chrome shield. At the same time, the design of the sync contact was changed, as well as the appearance of some external parts. 1956 - the shutter speed head was redesigned - as a result, it became possible to switch shutter speeds both with the shutter cocked and released.
1957 - a new standard lens "I-26M" 2.8 / 5 cm was installed on the camera and for the first time for the "FED" the working distance was standardized (28.8 mm)
After 1958, a number of shutter speeds were changed in accordance with the new GOST: 1 / 30, 1 / 60, 1 / 125, 1 / 500 sec.
1963 - a new standard lens "I-61" 2.8 / 52 with lanthanum glass was installed on the camera (for the first time in Soviet camera manufacturing).
1969 - a locking mechanism to prevent under-cocking of the lever was introduced into the mechanism, and a new body with a reduced rangefinder base.
Production of the FED-2 ended in 1970 - a total of 1,632,600 units were produced. The numbering of these cameras was restarted and remained sequential until approximately 1961 (1.1 million units), after which it became encrypted.

Issue II - in 1956 a sync contact was added to the body, to the left of the lens. On the top panel there is an inscription: "FEDzerzhinsky Plant"
Issue IIa - the inscription "FEDzerzhinsky Plant" was removed
Issue IIe - the sync contact was moved to the upper chrome plated shield to the left of the rangefinder window; the shutter mechanism cocking head was changed; black body
Issue III - self-timer added in 1958
Issue IV - after 1958 a number of shutter speeds were changed in accordance with the new GOST: 1/30, 1/60, 1/125, 1/500 sec
Issue IVa - the clamp for accessories was raised on the platform
Issue IVb - the edging around the front viewfinder window was removed
Issue IVv - the inscription of the camera name changed (became double)
Issue IVg - the ears for the shoulder strap were removed, decorative imitation leather lining
Issue V - since 1969 a lever cocking with a mechanism for blocking undercocking was introduced, and a new body with a reduced rangefinder base
