Antique auger was handmade by a craftsmanship. The metal top part is fitted into the wooden handle and can't be swapped out for a different bit size. Drill bit and handle shank forge welded together.  The metal of the handle shank is starting to separate as shown in the photos. An excellent representation of primitive craftsmanship.
